Beating Obama to the Punch: Some Change

obama Beating Obama to the Punch: Some Change

(How political, right?) Yes, change is in the air, and ty.rannosaur.us is changing (or evolving) also. Here is what’s up:

1. No more ugly advertising.

Really, there was no point because I’m not in this for the money and it was just making the site look ugly. So, they are gone.

2. Daily updates starting in January.

Starting in January I plan on doing daily updates. Mostly links to sites that cover things that I find interesting (trivia, pop culture, obscure stuff, history, etc). But I promise not to drown out the original content in a sea of links. I think it is possible to find a balance.

3. New feed for just the features.

I know this raises concerns about bloat, especially from e-mail readers who don’t want 10+ e-mails from me a day. So, I created a new feed just for the features (read as: original content). I’ll probably also throw in a summary of the best links once a week.

Steps to subscribe to the featured feed via e-mail:

  1. Click here to subscribe to the new feed.
  2. Click here to unsubscribe from the old one (if you’re already subscribed to it).
  3. Throw a party for yourself.

4. New writers (?)

If anyone is interested in writing for ty.rannosaur.us I’d love to hear from you. The perfect person would be someone who knows a decent amount about historic trivia. Send me an e-mail (admin@ty.rannosaur.us) if you’re interested.

New update sometime next week! I promise!

By Sami on October 05th, 2008

I’ve been busy with work and post-Ike stuff but I have been working on updates at the same time. The next planned article is about the most hated people on the internet. I feel that I’ve been ignoring the pop culture side of this site, I wanted to do something outside of which historic figures whipped chamber maids to get off, and after reading Radar’s take on the subject I felt it missed some of the most hated people on the net and included a bunch of people most don’t give a shit about.

So, I approached this differently: it will be about people that actually put out something on the net and the backlash they receive, leading them to become the most hated on the net. Example? Tila Tequila, she used to be an internet softcore porn model before ditching her subscribers to become… whatever the hell she is now, leading to a massive backlash from her subscribers who now hound her calling her a dolphin.

Depending on how busy work is next week, I expect it to be up by Wednesday. If you have any ideas about people I should include, leave a comment!

I’m back (but Houston is in disarray)

By Sami on September 16th, 2008

I was out of town for about two weeks and just as I came back… Ike ran through Houston.  As you can imagine, things are a bit hectic here these days.  So, I promise I’ll get back to updating ASAP but there probably won’t be an update this week because of family, work, friends, and other things that are taking priority right now.

While I’ve been extremely lucky in the sense that my power and water is still running, there are plenty of people here in Houston that the American Red Cross, United Way, Salvation Army or Texas Disaster Relief Fund.

Reminder: We Will Be Launching Tomorrow

By Sami on May 14th, 2008

Just a friendly reminder that the site will soft-launch tomorrow (Thursday). I will be doing one major update every week and smaller updates until we get some decent content up to push for a major launch.

When the launch is finalized I plan on giving away a Nintendo Wii, shirts, and other stuff.

I’m excited, I’ve been working on this site for close to a year now and have spent almost $2K to get the idea I sketched out on a pad while in a meeting transfered into a website. But this is a work of love and money isn’t an object when you love something.

Take a second to add our RSS feed and check back tomorrow!

We will be soft launching May 15th

By Sami on April 30th, 2008

What do I mean by “soft launching”? We will launch, but updates will be fairly sporadic as I iron out kinks. I’m hoping that we get into the swing of things by mid-June. Stick around, add our RSS/e-mail feed.

Thanks for your patience!
